How Did I Choose Treadmill For My Home Gym

In May 2020 my husband and I moved to Colorado. Moving to a state with all four season means running outside during winter time can be very challenging. Treadmill can help having consistent training without breaking for winter season. Therefore I had to look for a good treadmill.

Searching for a good treadmill in internet might be very challenging and frustrating.

So I started with asking my running community from instagram for recommendation.

I got recommendation mostly for Peloton and for NordicTrack.

Peloton has only one kind of treadmill, which eliminates problem of choosing from multiple options. Price for the treadmill starts from $4295, which makes it not affordable to everyone. In addition my research showed that in order to use all benefits of that treadmill you also need to subscribe for monthly payments to have access to live and on demand workouts. Peloton treadmill doesn't have a fan.

NordicTrack has lots of different kinds of treadmills. I have heard from some of my friends lots of good thinks about NordicTrack Commercial 1750, watched and read few reviews.

This treadmill has 1 year of iFit live and in demand workouts membership included with treadmill purchase. Price $1999. It has speed up to 12 mph, -3 to 15% incline. It has built in powerful fan, which is a huge plus. You can also connect you audio from the phone via bluetooth, so you can listen to your favorite music, podcast or a book while running.

Built in workouts are nice to have, it makes running on the treadmill more fun. Though those workouts on demand are limited to 1:51:00 and up to 10 miles if following elevation and speed of workout.

How I use NordicTrack Commercial 1750 treadmill:

I do my easy and recovery runs, sometimes long runs and specific speed workout.

In order to run with video from workouts on demand, I go by length of workout and I manually change speed and incline if needed.

When I have specific speed workout, I program my running watch by time, so I'll hear the beeps and change my treadmill speed manually. Sometimes on higher speeds it gets very challenging to change the speed by taping on touch button, because they are not responding immediately. I wish the button were more responsive or clickable.

Overall conclusion: it's a good treadmill for a reasonable price, that covers all basic needs of a runner.
