How to start feeling accomplished and get motivated to take an action towards your dreams

“THE WAY TO MEASURE YOUR PROGRESS IS BACKWARD AGAINST WHERE YOU STARTED, NOT AGAINST YOUR IDEAL.” — Dan Sullivan

We tend to forget about our accomplishments if we don't write them down. If someone asked you, what did you eat yesterday you probably wouldn't even remember. That's why writing down your accomplishments is very important.

Here's how you can start feeling accomplished:

  1. Start your journal with a list of all your achievements within 1 year, 6 months, 3 months and 30 days. Every time you journal you can remind yourself how much has been achieved by you. There is no win that is too small, every little or big accomplishment needs to be recorded. That list of personal victories will make you feel better.

  2. Write down in your journal daily accomplishments. It can be small or big wins or something that you've learned today.

  3. Once a week, for example on Sunday, write down your weekly wins and at the end of each month - monthly wins.

When you are constantly reminded of how far you've come and how much you've gained, you feel like a winner and ready to reach even more goals.

As an example, sometimes I get caught in the feeling that I’m failing and that I can never reach my goals. I forget about all the progress I’ve made so far. Down below are my accomplishments that make me feel good and appreciate my running journey.

🏆 I ran 8 marathons since February 2017, 6 of them were Boston Marathon Qualifying Times, fastest marathon 3:04.

The point where I started my running journey was 20 minutes run at about 14 min/mile pace in the end of June 2015. comparing it to my fastest marathon, I've improved so much, fastest marathon was 3 h 4 min at average pace 7:03 min/mile, which is twice faster than my initial running pace.

Knowing where I want to be and where I am, doesn’t make me happy. But if I look 👀 back to where I started, I can see how much I have accomplished and that makes me feel very grateful.

Gratitude 🙏 is were all the gains happen. Comparison to your ideal is were you get stuck in the gap. The ideal always evolves and you can never be good enough.

Instead, think of the ideal as a horizon line — it sets the direction and the journey to a closer goal (short term), then you upgrade it and move forward to the next and so on.

Focus on progress and not on what you haven’t achieved. Count your blessings. Be grateful.

Thank you so much to Dr. Benjamin Hardy and Dun Sullivan for an incredible book 📖 THE GAP AND THE GAIN, that has transformed my thinking.

P.S. Imagine, if I can show you an attractive way that you could start feeling good and achieve your goals, then I have an idea that you would want at the very least to look at it, wouldn't you?
