Running performance is like roller coaster. It is very unpredictable with its ups , downs and plateau. And you never know how much time you will spend on each level.
For past couple years I have tried to figure out how to boost my performance when it's down.
So here are 6 things you should do to boost your performance when it's down.
1. Be patient.
Nobody knows how much time your down performance may take. It is easy to give up and quit when you are not at your best. But you should remember everything is temporary, so be patient and know that you will feel good again.
2. More recovery.
Visit massage therapist. Do regularly your mobility and stretching routine. Have a good night sleep. Go to bed an hour earlier than usual. Make sure stay well hydrated.
3. Keep your easy runs easy.
Forget about the pace you were running faster. Don't look at your running watch. Just go outside and run. Run that way so you would feel it is almost too easy. Run to enjoy your run without getting worried about outcome. Feel good every single mile your in.
4. Do the blood test.
Your body is like a car. It doesn't have to look good only from outside but also from inside. It is always good idea to check on what's going on inside your body. So a good way to do it is to test your blood. The things you want to look at are CBC (complete blood count), CMP (electrolytes), Ferritin, Thyirod, Testosterone, Magnesium.
5. Check your nutrition.
What we eat impacts our performance. There so many different diets put there, but it's good to find which one works for you. Anti-inflammatory diet is always may seem like a good idea. Make sure to keep your macro- and micro- nutrients in balance, eat more green veggies and leafy greens. Use calories counting app, for example, MyFitnessPal for tracking your macro- and micro- nutrients.
6. Talk to your coach.
When you don't feel good and you see that something isn't working, talk to your coach and tell all your concerns, so he/she would adapt training plan for you and will help you get faster back to your good performance. Don't have a coach? It is always a good idea to consider hiring one. Professional coach has experience and knowledge that can help you succeed faster.
